There are still over 21,000 H1B visas available!
On January 21st, 2004 the US Government (Immigration & Naturalization) released an official notice stating that:
To date 43,500 H1B visas have either been approved or are pending in the queue for adjudication.
This means that once the cap has been reached (estimated 2-3 months), US embassies and consulates around the world, will not be able to issue H1B visas ('after' the full quota of 65,000 has been reached).

The 2004 H1B quota is set at 65,000 which is for the period: October 1st, 2003 through September 30th, 2004
UPDATE: the up-swing in H1B recruitment means that job seekers and sponsors have an estimated 3 months to find and secure their H1B visa job/candidates within this years H1B cap (quota).
Both H1B job seekers and employers are stepping up their search, recruitment and hiring efforts to ensure they don't miss out on this years H1B visa program.
