Thousands of International students graduated from U.S. universities at the start of this summer and received OPT (optional practical training). Their EADs will expire in June and July of 2004. It is predicted that by this time there may no longer be any H1B visas available due to the reduced cap to 65,000.
It is recommended that these International students have their employers apply to change their status to H-1B now.
In addition, it is recommended to use the Premium Processing Service, as current processing times for H1B petitions at the four CIS Service Centers range up to 6 months. As stated, there may not be any H1B visas left in 6 months, so be cautious and use premium processing to assure a 15-day turnaround.
